News from the Driver’s Seat…

Recently Woody's Hot Rodz celebrated a milestone anniversary; on July 7th we turned five!  To a small business this is a relatively big feat, for a startup hot rod shop it is a really big feat, to us it was just part of a well-laid plan.  It seems like yesterday that I was sweating away in my two bay shop at my house when Ryan stopped over to help me install a window A/C unit to cool the shop.  The next day he stopped back over to help me paint a '46 Ford I was working on for my brother and kind of never left.  Over the next few months we worked side-by-side building and learning about the cars we were working on and the business we hope we could someday develop.  Thanks to good business coaches and advice from other builders, friends, and even a few family members, a well laid plan was put into place shortly after we started.

Close to forty full projects have passed through the doors at Woody's during the past five years with another ten in process currently.  Many staff members have come and gone and many things have changed along the way, however many things have stayed the course.  We began this business with one principle; "When it quits being FUN, we stop doing it!"  Now, I won't say there haven't been moments that I would like to forget but for the most part we have always followed our principle of "fun".  When growing a business there is a lot that needs tended to, call it "hats to wear".  Naturally, in the beginning I wore them all.  Through the years Ryan took on more and more as time allowed.  Fortunately for Woody's, over the past year or so we have attracted and held onto a very good core group of staff members that have taken many of the hats that Ryan and I used to wear and put them on themselves.  In fact, Ryan runs the business for the most part on a day-to-day basis which allows me time to dive into other things that will help keep Woody's on target over our next five years.

Looking back, I smile and reflect on what we have done in such a short period of time: 40+ projects, 4 feature cars, 3 magazine covers, multiple awards, 50+ tech articles published, 1 Wall Street Journal article, 60 national events attended with many, many friends made along the way.  Looking back is fun, but looking forward is what we do best.  We are about to open what will become the Woody's Hot Rod Service Center that will handle many of the small projects the main shop cannot.  Hopefully in the not so distant future we will have our Woody's Preferred Parts website available for purchasing some of the products through us that we use everyday on projects in the shop.

So, keep your eyes on the road and check back often...at Woody's we don't spend much time looking in the rearview mirror!!  See you on the road!
