Printed in The American Tri-Five magazine in Volume 4 : Issue 5
Since the Heidt’s IRS we installed is going under the 2019 Danchuk Tri-Five Nationals Golden Star Giveaway car, we went ahead and installed a full Heidt’s front suspension as well!
1.) Heidt’s has everything you need to set up the front as well. This setup utilizes their 2” drop spindle, tubular control arms, billet coilover kit, and Wilwood brakes to match the rear.
2.) Upper suspension installation is straight forward, as they are designed to be a direct OE-replacement with no modification required. Heidt’s upper control arms have additional caster engineered into them for better tracking at modern speeds.
3.) Lower control arm installation mimics upper, in the sense that factory mounting points are retained. No torches or drills necessary!
4.) Once your control arms are bolted into place, you can install the coilover. Spin it to the lowest setting, and they’ll go right into place. No pesky compressors needed like doing shocks and coil springs!
5.) The Heidt’s coilovers use a T-bar lower mount, much like your factory shocks. Attach the bottom first, feed the rod through the upper shock mount on the frame, and bolt it down.
6.) With the coilovers in place, you can then install the spindles. These units are Heidt’s wildly popular 2” drop spindles. Do note, these spindles are a must when using Heidt’s control arms, in order to accommodate the specialized heavy duty balljoints that Heidt’s uses in their control arms.
7.) Bolt the upper spindle into place, and you’re all finished up and ready for brakes!
